What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a non-surgical, personalized program of activities designed to improve visual skills and visual information processing abilities. Unlike glasses or contact lenses, which correct eyesight, vision therapy targets how the brain and eyes work together, enhancing abilities such as eye teaming, eye focusing, eye tracking, and eye-hand coordination. Visual information processing refers to the brain’s ability to interpret visual information and is a critical part of vision.

How do I start Vision Therapy?

1

Start with a Comprehensive Eye Exam

This is to ensure there are no other underlying eye health concerns impacting your vision.
This can be completed with your routine optometrist, and a subsequent referral can be
made to our clinic.

2

Book a Functional Visual Skills exam

This is to thoroughly detect for any inefficiencies in your visual system. Based on the
results, if indicated, you may be scheduled for a secondary Visual Information Processing
exam to evaluate processing functions such as visual discrimination, visual memory, and
visual motor integration.

3

Schedule Vision Therapy

Our doctors will plan a vision therapy curriculum catered to your visual needs. One-on-one
45-minute vision therapy sessions will take place on a weekly basis, with progress
evaluations taking place periodically. Your performance will be monitored closely, and
exercises are made more difficult to encourage further improvement over time.
